Learn to Discover Life's Molecular Secrets

The Department seeks promising students for graduate training in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Our program is research-intensive, providing both broad biochemical knowledge and deep training in specific research disciplines and techniques. In addition to competitive stipends, our graduate students enjoy access to individualized faculty-student mentoring, cutting edge research facilities, and a stimulating multicultural environment. Graduates from our program go on to positions in industry, government, education, public communication, or to develop their own independent research labs.

Our students can pursue research with faculty working in diverse fields of study.

Research Areas:
  • Plant Biology and Genetics
  • Non-coding RNA
  • Bioinformatics and Computational Biology
  • Cancer Biology and Drug Discovery
  • Epigenetics and Stress Tolerance
  • Metabolism and Obesity
  • Proteomics/Mass Spectrometry
  • Antibiotic Resistance
  • Structural Biology
  • Infectious Diseases
  • Cell Biology, Cell Signaling, and Post Translational Modification

Curriculum

We offer Master’s and Ph.D. degrees, as well as a Bioinformatics Certificate program. All of our programs develop critical thinking, scientific communication, and leadership skills. Our Ph.D. and traditional Master’s programs emphasize research and research skills, while our other programs focus on additional career opportunities.
Individual plans of study are designed with the assistance of the student’s graduate advisory committee, and are tailored to the student’s interests and goals. Our faculty conduct research in the subjects that they teach, providing modern content and perspective that surpasses textbook rote.

Support and Assistance

Nearly all of our students are supported by monthly stipends, tuition waivers, and a generous University supplement for health insurance, allowing most of our graduate students to be self-sufficient while pursuing their graduate education.

Additionally, students can also compete for a variety of Departmental, College, and University scholarships and awards.
